Kip Williams

Kip Williams

Software Consultant

Kip is responsible for software consultation and sales primarily in the north central area of the United States. He brings over 30 years of experience working in eyecare software sales and services. Kip started working at Global Optics with his father in 1975. In 1982, Global Optics bought an optometric software program known as Goal Eyecare Software from three optometrists. Kip managed the software division for 17 years before purchasing it in 1999. Kip has personally installed over 500 software systems and performed on-site trainings throughout the U.S. In his spare time, Kip is an avid fisherman, outdoorsman, and Green Bay Packers fan. He and his wife have three married children and seven grandchildren. Contact Me
Brandon Doyle

Brandon Doyle

Software Consultant

Brandon is responsible for software consultation and sales in the southeastern region of the United States. For the past seven years, he has worked at Goal Eyecare Software alongside Kip Williams, supporting and training clients. Originally hailing from Macon, Georgia, Brandon now resides in Green Bay, Wisconsin with his wife and son. He enjoys baseball, football, and tennis as well as boating and fishing with his family. Gilan Cockrell, Chief Executive Officer

Gilan Cockrell, O.D., F.A.A.O.

Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Cockrell has been in private practice in Emporia, Kansas since 1980. Born and raised in rural Oklahoma, Dr. Cockrell graduated from Oklahoma State University and received his Optometry degree with honors from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. He is a member of the Kansas Optometric Association, Kansas Optometric Foundation, American Optometric Association, Beta Sigma Kappa, Heart of America Contact Lens Congress, and the Eye Care Council, and he currently serves on the Kansas State Board of Examiners in Optometry. In 1998, he was elected president of the Kansas Optometric Association, and he has served as chairman of the State Government Relations Center for the American Optometric Association. Recipient of the Distinguished Service Award for the Kansas Optometric Association in both 1993 and 2000, he was also voted the 2002 Kansas Optometrist of the year. Dr. Cockrell was a co-founder of the Eye Care Council and the originator of the “See To Learn” program. He is also past president of the Emporia noon Rotary club and received the Rotary foundation District Service Award for Outstanding Service in promoting the Rotary Foundation and its goal of world understanding and peace. Dr. Cockrell and his wife, Susan, are members of the First United Methodist Church and have raised their family in Emporia.

Chief Financial Officer

Brad is the CFO of Williams Group and Practice Director EHR Software, a division of Williams Group. Bringing a strong combination of strategic client-focused thinking and operational expertise to the company, he enjoys working through the challenges that business brings and ensuring the highest level of customer satisfaction. Brad joined the executive team of Williams Group in 2003. He began his career with the tax, audit, and advisory firm KPMG and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree along with his CPA designation. Prior to joining Williams Group, Brad held the position of interim president and CEO of Nexmedia Technologies, Inc., a publicly listed software company. In addition to enjoying business, he and his wife are involved in their church and enjoy running, cycling, and other outdoor activities, including watching football, especially the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Tammi Sufficool, M.B.A., President of Consulting Services

President of Consulting Services

Tammi brings over 15 years of experience working in the optometry industry. As a senior consultant for Williams Group, Tammi helped over 400 optometry practices with their finance, marketing, human resource, and business management. As the former director of software solutions for Practice Director EHR Software, she is also an expert on EHRs, the stimulus incentive, and the steps for meaningful use. Tammi earned an MBA from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

Tom Bowen, Executive Vice President

Earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing and Advertising from the University of Nebraska, Tom is the former marketing director for Williams Group and has been involved with strategic business and marketing programming at many levels of the healthcare industry. Since joining Williams Group in 1986, he has spent 15 years consulting with private practitioners and the industry at large in all areas of organizational management, strategic planning, internal marketing, and external marketing. Tom has also published numerous management/marketing texts and articles and is the editor of “Operations Management Review,” a newsletter for private practice owners. He is a member of the Academy for Health Care Marketing, and a renowned worldwide lecturer on organizational management, team building and communication, internal and external marketing, consumer behavior, and greater personal achievement.
Bill Nolan, Executive Vice President

Bill Nolan

Executive Vice President

Bill Nolan is a graduate of Creighton University and studied Accounting and Finance at St. Louis University and Marquette University. He has been in practice management consulting with Williams Group since 1989. Bill is a well-known lecturer in the industry and has presented at all of the major optometric venues in the United States, Canada, and Australia on staff management, optometric business finance, and organizational management. He also extensively consults on practice transitions and exit/entry strategies for practice ownership. Additionally, he has published a variety of articles on these subjects in national optometric journals.

Sarah Dirksen

Sarah J. Dirksen

Product Manager

Sarah is the Product Manager for the Practice Director EHR Software Development and Support team. Sarah works with the development team to prioritize new items and revisions for our software releases. She gathers requirements, visits with current clients about potential development enhancements, and communicates the development status of and planned features for Practice Director. Prior to joining Practice Director in June of 2006, Sarah worked as an optician and insurance receptionist for a large optometric practice in Lincoln, Nebraska. Sarah’s combined experience from working in an optometry practice and exceptional knowledge of Practice Director makes her uniquely qualified in her position. Sarah plays and captains on an USTA Tennis team and is a soccer and Husker fan. Sarah resides in Lincoln, Nebraska, and is married with two children, Tyler and Emma.

Support Specialist

James is a Support Specialist for Practice Director EHR Software. Born and raised here in Lincoln, Nebraska, James graduated from Southeast Community College with an Associates of Science degree. He is an avid Husker football fan and enjoys playing and watching golf and basketball.

Karol Leisy

Karol Leisy

Support Specialist

Karol assists clients with all aspects of Practice Director EHR Software, beginning with the online training enrollment and office data entry. She diligently works with clients on a regular basis until they are ready to go live with the software. She then provides continued support, as needed, after the software is rolled out in a practice. Her top priority is to provide excellent customer service for all of her clients. Karol has been involved in the eyecare industry since 1995, having worked with independent optometrists in all aspects of the optometry office, including lab, insurance, and management. She has previous experience with Compulink, MaximEyes, and Correll software. She also attends the ongoing education needed to maintain her CPOA status. Karol especially enjoys working with doctors and staff to help them utilize Practice Director to its fullest potential.

John Woodshank

John Woodshank

Support Specialist

John joined the Practice Director team in November 2015. A longtime resident of Lincoln, Nebraska, John graduated from the University of Nebraska with a bachelor of science degree. Previously, John has worked in the systems/software support field for such companies as the Nebraska Book Company, the State of Nebraska, Lee Enterprises, and the Nebraska State Lottery. In his spare time, John enjoys watching college football and playing golf.

Lisa Kavanagh

Client Support Concierge

Lisa is the Practice Director EHR Software client support concierge. Her main responsibility is to provide customer service to our clients in a friendly, efficient manner. She looks forward to working with Practice Director clients and assisting them with their needs. Lisa holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences and has worked as customer service representative and front desk agent. Before joining Practice Director in January 2013, Lisa worked at the Arbor Day Foundation. Outside of work, Lisa enjoys socializing with family and friends. She is a Nebraska native and lives in Lincoln with her husband and two cats.

Jamie works as an IT technician at Practice Director EHR Software. Prior to working at Practice Director, Jamie spent 10 years working with industrial automation before going back to school for a degree in Network Administration. Jamie joined the Practice Director team in 2011 and enjoys the combination of directly working with clients and computer systems. A Nebraska native, Jamie lives In Lincoln with his wife and five-year-old son. He enjoys the outdoors, cycling, hunting, a good laugh, and he is a big fan of college football.

Sara Dennis holds a degree in Computer Information Technology from Southeast Community College, where she majored as a Computer Support Specialist. Her time outside of work is spent focusing on her favorite people in the world, her three children. Terry Peterson

Terry Peterson

Software Engineer

Terry is a software engineer with over 20 years of software development experience. He joined the Practice Director EHR Software team in early 2011 and was a key software contributor in Practice Director’s EHR certification. Previously, Terry worked as a software contractor for the Department of Defense in San Antonio, Texas. His primary area of development was in the Signals Intelligence arena, particularly using complex systems for signal identification. He is looking forward to future EHR software development, especially in decision-support systems. His skill set includes Enterprise Java, Java-based Web services, and expert system programming. Terry has a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from South Dakota State University.
Lien Phan

Lien Phan

Senior Software Engineer

Lien is a senior software engineer for Practice Director EHR Software. She has a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering and a Master’s degree in Software Enterprises. Before joining the Practice Director team, Lien worked for GC Image, a small software visualization company. At GC Image, she expanded her skill sets beyond those of traditional software development to include extensive experience in the areas of requirements capture and analysis, software design, and software testing. Because of the company’s focus on developing visual software solutions for analyzing and reporting two-dimensional gas chromatography data, Lien was able to acquire a rich set of user interface design skills. She also developed skills working with Java 3D imaging. Since joining Practice Director, Lien has used these skills towards improving the quality of the Practice Director EHR Software, especially in areas involved with usability and interface design.
Daniel Hutchinson

Daniel joined the Practice Director EHR Software development team as a software engineer in 2013, bringing with him over seven years of experience developing software. Prior to joining Practice Director, he developed chromatography software for GC Image. His primary focuses were user interface design, data visualization, and algorithm performance. Daniel received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Nebraska, with a major in Computer Science. He enjoys riding his motorcycle, watching his children play sports, and spending time with his family.
Phil Belyaev

Phil has been designing, developing, and supporting optometric practice management software since 1991, when he joined the GOAL Eyecare Software team. During his tenure at GOAL, Phil redesigned and rewrote the entire software product. His software development approach balances elegant design with ease of use. After graduating from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, he taught Russian language and literature courses for two years. Phil lives with his wife and children in McHenry, Illinois, where he enjoys coaching his son’s baseball team and volunteering at his daughter’s school. He is an avid chess player and photographer.
Karen Halvorson

Quality Assurance Analyst

Karen performs testing services for Practice Director EHR Software and creates training videos for the application. Before joining Practice Director in 2006, Karen spent five years as an office manager in an optometric office and worked in all areas of the practice. Karen enjoys using not only her office experience but also her Accounting and Communications degrees while working with the Practice Director application. She loves camping, fishing, and archery with her husband and three children.
Adam Johnson

Information Systems Technician

Adam is an information systems technician for the Practice Director EHR Software, and he has been with the company since December 2008. He performs data conversions from other optometric software systems to Practice Director, uploads new training videos to Practice Director’s training website, and assists clients with technical issues.

Sheila Hayes has been a part of the Client Services division of Williams Group since 2001. Her career has included experience in operations, budgeting, marketing, human resources and staff training as well as marketing and customer service lectures for Williams Group. Sheila acquired an in-depth knowledge of patient care and operations management by spending nearly two decades in private optometric practices. She is passionate about optometry and knows first-hand the challenges and rewards associated with running a practice. Sheila serves as the director of Williams Group’s FastStart division, which prepares clients for ownership success.

Robin graduated from the University of Kansas with a B.S. in Business Communication. She offers a diverse background of more than 19 years extensive experience in administration, human resources and public relations. Notably, Robin has spent the last nine years embracing the Williams Way in private practice with an emphasis on leadership development and staff engagement as well as effective hiring techniques to recruit and build the right team you can trust. She also focuses on team training and staff organization or reorganization. With these skills Robin wants nothing more than to help people reach their business goals and grow successfully.

Bess Ogden graduated from Dartmouth College with a degree in Psychology and a multiple subject teaching credential. After five years as a public school teacher, her interest in business and finance led her to become a financial advisor with a private investment firm. Bess truly found her passion, though, when she began a career in private optometry. She enjoyed eight years as the office manager of a thriving practice with five doctors in Arcata, CA, before joining Williams Group in 2006. Having successfully implemented “The Williams Way” in the Arcata practice, Bess has experienced the challenges and rewards associated with the process, both for the doctors and the staff. She is responsible for assisting Williams Group clients in achieving their own successes.

Michele holds an associate degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing from Southeast Community College and a Bachelor’s degree in Management of Human Resources from Bellevue University. She joined the Williams Group team in 2005 and continues to be responsible for numerous aspects of client relations. Often, she is the first person from the Consulting division that will contact you when you begin a FastStart or FastTrack program. Her superior organizational and communication skills are an asset to Williams Group and, more importantly, our clients.

Megan Johnson graduated from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln with a degree in Consumer Science and Advertising. She joined Williams Group in 2009 and assists Williams Group clients in coordinating and implementing marketing plans. Megan has several years’ experience in marketing and print production, and develops concepts and materials to promote optometric practices of all types and sizes.

Chris Botruff graduated from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in 2004 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management. He has since accumulated eight years of experience in small business management and spent several years as a franchise business consultant helping business owners achieve better success. Chris joined Williams Group in 2011, bringing with him a passion for refining processes and building exceptional customer experiences. Currently, he assists our clients that have additional service needs, such as accounting, social media, or transition planning.

With over 24 years in the eyecare industry, Tom Breen is the assistant vice president of practice transition services at Williams Group. Formerly a senior consultant and the director of business development for Williams Group, Tom has led his own firm helping eyecare business implement growth strategies. During the course of his career, he’s worked with Vision Source, Marchon, and Rite Style Optical, and he continues to lecture, train, and consult on many different facets of practice management and human resource development. Tom received a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with an emphasis in marketing management and communications.
Susan Napolitano, General Counsel and Vice President of wgTransitions

Susan Napolitano

General Counsel and Vice President of wgTransitions

Susan joined Williams Group as the company’s general counsel and vice president of wgTransitions. Susan brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that will be beneficial to our customers looking to transition their optometry practices. Napolitano will aid Williams Group Transitions/Brokerage clients when it comes to all documentations necessary for the successful transition of their practices. Prior to this role, Napolitano owned her own legal firm where she specialized in business transitions and contracts. She is a member of the Nebraska Bar Association and earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Nebraska. While in law school, Napolitano was involved in the Women’s Law Caucus and was also a member of the Nebraska Law Review. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in English education from Northland College.

Kim Vidal joined Williams Group in September 2014. Roman received his Master’s Degree in Business Administration, with a concentration in healthcare, from Bellevue University. He boasts 15 years of business development experience, as well as five years of management experience.

Todd Pecks joined the Williams Group as an accounting specialist in April 2015. Todd graduated from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration majoring in Accounting. Deanna Hartung, Payroll Technician

Deanna Hartung

Payroll & Benefits Administrator

Deanna’s main objectives are to process internal payroll, maintain employee files and records, and ensure accurate implementation of both the health insurance and retirement plans for Practice Director. She is also responsible for making tax payments and generating tax reports in adherence to regulations. Deanna’s prior experience in the banking industry and with online data processing illustrate her capabilities for this position. She has studied at Nebraska Wesleyan University and at Central Community College in Hastings, NE. She also holds a certificate in Medical Terminology. Deanna and her husband enjoy college football and they volunteer at Husker football games. They also volunteer every February at Chocolate Lovers’ Fantasy, sponsored by the Historic Haymarket.

Justin joined Williams Group in March of 2015 as Director of Marketing. Justin has progressed his 13-year Marketing career in the communications, outdoor recreation, and financial software industries, holding various marketing and management positions. He graduated from Midland University with a degree in Marketing and also has an MBA in Marketing from Bellevue University. Outside of work, Justin is involved in his kids’ activities, enjoys outdoor sports, early morning workouts, and traveling with his wife.

Kelsey joined Williams Group in June 2016 as marketing manager. She graduated from Briar Cliff University in 2011 with degrees in graphic design and mass communications. In her free time , Kelsey enjoys cooking, hand lettering, and reading.

Marketing Coordinator

Brittany joined Williams Group in May 2015 as marketing coordinator. She is a 2014 graduate from Hastings College, where she received her bachelors degree in advertising/public relations. Brittany was also a member of the Hastings College Women’s Soccer team. Outside of work, Brittany enjoys hiking, outdoor sports, and traveling with friends.
