Practice Director 3.0 is now in beta testing and will be released this fall. There are many enhancements to the software that will be beneficial to you and your staff.

Since users may have different ways of working in the EMR module, each user will be able to customize the EMR form to better suit their needs. This inherent flexibility will allow each user to be much more efficient in the EMR module.

In the recall module, a recall will be deactivated when a patient makes a new appointment. Statements in the accounting module will be enhanced through users being able to run a query of patients with or without balances. An un-invoiced exam report has been added to track exams that were not invoiced.

Which of these features do you think will be most beneficial to you? What are some other features you would like to see in future releases?

Benefits of Using Our EHR

For many, the prospect of implementing Electronic Health Records can be intimidating. Although there are obvious benefits associated with going paperless and eliminating paper charts, the “fear of the unknown” can make this task seem overwhelming. The good news is that Practice Director can make the implementation process very manageable.

There are several reasons to take advantage of this module of Practice Director:

  1. The EHR will eliminate the need for the optical and billing staff to spend valuable time re-entering diagnosis and CPT codes.
  2. Staff will not spend their time filing, re-filing, or looking for charts on a daily basis.
  3. The cost of paper supplies will be severely reduced and the absence of physical charts will free up space to be utilized for other office needs.
  4. Once the patient has been in the office for the comprehensive exam, and the data is now stored on the computer, their paper chart can be filed alphabetically behind the last “Z” patient chart, eliminating the need to refer to the paper chart in the future.
  5. You’ll always have the option to scan all the paper charts into Practice Director if you choose.
  6. Incentives realized from the HITECH Act: If you begin utilizing the EHR in Practice Director now, by the time the EHR incentives are available, you will be way ahead of the game. So set a goal date to begin.

If you are more interested in learning about our software and the EHR, please watch our software preview or request an online demonstration. You can also contact us to learn more about our software.

Practice Director Software for Windows & Mac OS X has added the ability for doctors to document an unlimited number of trial contacts lens (CL) fittings within the original electronic record. The objective of contact lens management is to find the best lens for the patient’s vision and comfort; therefore the ability to add unlimited CL trials with the final prescription being integrated with dispensary and billing is necessary for complete CL management and care.

Optometry Software for Mac OS X

More optometrists and retail optical stores are switching to Practice Director because Practice Director is fully Mac compatible. Mac compatibility isn’t the only reason they are switching to Practice Director, but it is one of many.

We recently deployed Practice Director on another all Mac multi-location optometry office. The server-side software of Practice Director was installed on a Mac Pro with 16GB RAM that supports connections from offices with approximately 10 users at each location. Users at each location are using a combination of MacBooks, iMac’s and MacBook Pro’s for their work stations. This professional office chose Practice Director because of its simple to use and integrated Electronic Health Record (EHR) and its ability to run in Mac OS X environments.

Another of our customers said the following about their experience with Practice Director migrating from PC/Windows to Mac OS X.

“What is really appealing about Practice Director is that most of us have had experience with a PC crashing and entertain switching to Mac. The main problem with switching is the expense of switching all computers at once. With Practice Director, you can switch one at a time, like we are doing, and the program works with all.” Drs Kevin & Joy Kissel O.D.; kissel@fastem.com

I’d love to hear your comments and if you’ve entertained the idea of switching from PC/Windows to Mac OS X, and why or why not?
